BRIDGE will in its fourth phase (2019-2021) be present in 12 transboundary river and lake basins in six regions of the world, working with stakeholders from more than 32 countries, as well as with large number of local, national, tranbsoundary, regional and international organisations and institutions.
Andes
In the Andean region, the BRIDGE project is implemented in two transboundary areas: the TDPS System: composed of the Titicaca Lake, the Desaguadero River, the lakes Poopo and Salar de Coipasa, and through the support to Ecuador and Peru in setting up and implementing a Binational Commission on Transboundary Water for the nine transboundary basins they share.
Horn of Africa
In the Horn of Africa, BRIDGE supports the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in coordinating member states’ efforts in the water sector. BRIDGE is also working in the Sio - Malaba - Malakisi (SMM) River Basin shared between Kenya and Uganda.
Mekong Region
In Asia, the BRIDGE initiative seeks to facilitate cooperative processes in the Sekong (Viet Nam-Lao PDR-Cambodia), Sesan (Viet Nam-Cambodia) and Sre Pok (Viet Nam-Cambodia) river basins.
Mesoamerica
BRIDGE activities are implemented in three pilot sites: The Sumpul (Honduras - El Salvador), the Goascorán (Honduras - El Salvador), and the Sixaola (Costa Rica - Panama) river basins.
Southern Africa
In Southern Africa BRIDGE is working in two transboundary basins: the Pungwe, Save and Buzi Rivers (Mozambique – Zimbabwe) and the Lake Malawi/Niassa/Nyasa (Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique).
West and Central Africa
In Western and Central Africa, BRIDGE is working in two transboundary basins: the Mano River (Liberia – Sierra Leone) and the Lake Chad (Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Central African Republic).
Meghna River basin : supported by The Asia Foundation and Oxfam's TROSA Programme
The overall objective of BRIDGE IN the Meghna river Basin is to build the capacity of CSOs to catalyse cooperative water governance, long-term economic growth and livelihood security in the Basin shared between Bangladesh and India
