Azraq Oasis, Jordan

The Azraq Basin is one of the most important recharging ground water basins in Jordan. It forms the largest resource of quality ground and surface water in Jordan. The Basin is located in the Northeastern part of the country, extending northwards into Syria and southwards touching the border with Saudi Arabia. The Azraq Oasis is a large mudflat located in the central and lowest part of the basin, 120 km North-East of Amman.

Marj Sanour watershed, Palestine

Improving conjunctive use of water and livelihood security in a Palestinian watershed

Marj Sanur is located in the southern part of the Jenin Governorate, an area suffering from water scarcity. This is a mountainous area, where hills surround relatively flat plains and gentle sloping water paths. Around these hill sides, the land is owned by seven villages which essentially affect and are socially and economically affected by the basin’s water. Marj Sanur is a valley with good agricultural potential for annual crops.

Beni Sueif and Minia, Egypt

Improving local water governance by catching the Nile’s water in a systemic way

The Egyptian demonstration project will work on developing a very practical Decision Support System (DSS) between all water sector actors for the irrigation/drainage system in the Nile Valley. The water sector in Egypt is faced with numerous challenges while addressing already existing problems, namely: (i) escalating demands versus limited resources, (ii) deteriorating water quality, and (iii) financial sustainability.
