Global team

The IUCN Water and Nature Initiative (WANI) team is dispersed all across the world. Each project region has its own water coordinator who oversees a team of project managers. The overall initiative is administered out of the IUCN Headquarters based in Switzerland.

History

The history of WANI started in 2000 with the World Water Vision, based on recognition that water is the basis for all living ecosystems, envisioned in a world in which adequate water is provided to meet basic human needs in an equitable manner and in harmony with nature.

Members

Working with IUCN members is key for the implementation of the Water and Nature Initiative. Members can consist of states, NGO's, research organisations, and others. They each contribute their own strenghts and experiences to the success of WANI.

Partners

Partners form an integral part to the work and scaling up of WANI. Whether international or local, joining forces with partner organisations creates stronger alliances and more effective practical action at the global level and in the field.

IUCN Water Resolutions

IUCN Resolutions guide the Water and Nature Initiative in decisions and focus, as requested by IUCN members. A full list of IUCN Water Resolutions from 1952-2008 can be found here.

Event Calendar 2011

Major water events and meetings take place each year. WANI staff attend particular conferences to present or discuss WANI challenges and solutions, and meet with members and partners. In 2011, a particular focus for water was set on the role of forests and cities.
