In the Andean region, the BRIDGE project is implemented in two transboundary areas: the TDPS System: composed of the Titicaca Lake, the Desaguadero River, the lakes Poopo and Salar de Coipasa, and through the support to Ecuador and Peru in setting up and implementing a Binational Commission on Transboundary Water for the nine transboundary basins they share.

The objectives of the project are to create an Information System on water resources in transboundary basins; to encourage the adoption of management strategies in line with the IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management) approach. From promoting the creation of an adequate institutional structure for IWRM in transboundary basins to providing support for the elaboration and implementation of IWRM plans, depending on the specific conditions of each basin; and finally, to strengthen water governance capacities of local, national and sub-regional authorities through specific activities like trainings, workshops.

Ecuador-Peru

What started as dialogues and facilitation on IWRM planning and coordination in two transboundary basins between Ecuador and Peru, did for the fourth phase of BRIDGE evolve into a process of supporting and advising the two governments to set-up and implement a Binational Commission on Transboundary Water for the nine transboundary basins they share. This video explains more about this work and IUCN's role supporting it, through BRIDGE:

International Water Resource Management (IWRM) Binational Commission between Ecuador and Peru

Titicaca Basin (Peru – Bolivia)

Collaboration was put in place between the hydrometeorological institutes of Bolivia and Peru, as well as among water supply companies in the basin. A Water Information System was developed and a plan to revise basin organization mandates was carried out.
